It’s simply not meant for general consumers as you will need to know and learn a lot of things. Sure, LogMeIn offers advanced features, but of late, there has been a rise in companies offering a similar set of features at a much lower cost.Īpart from the high tag pricing, many find the user interface overwhelming. If I'm paying money though, there are FAR better options for far cheaper.Īnd to be honest, 7 day warning to change? When they give you 7 days notice that they are jacking up your paid products or shutting those down, don't say you weren't warned that they think this is good customer service. One of the major reasons, users and businesses are looking for LogMeIn replacement is that it costs much higher than the competition. I would have happily paid a $10 a year subscription or some other reasonable price for what is basically a firewall bypassing agent. That said, if and possibly 'when' LogMeIn starts mucking around with Central and Pro, potentially up-ending my sizable installed base for which I pay more than pocket change, they had better move much more carefully than this. It may cost nothing to the users, but it sure as hell don't cost nothing to the providers. Let the whining freeloaders pummel Teamviewer's service, and leave my service to the appreciative, paying customers.

All the posters crying about the free product being taken away, about how they're going right over to TeamViewer… well if I was LogMeIn, I'd be relieved. It wasn't even supported by advertising like other free products, like Gmail. There's no justifiable sense of entitlement to a free product. The LogMeIn forums are hundreds of pages deep with just whining. 7 days? That almost seems like some kind of social engineering… grab people when they're panicked and outraged, before they really have time to come up with another idea.īut that isn't even the bulk of the complaints. And the short notice is really rather rude. A few complaints I can understand… buyers of the $130 Ignition app, for example.

Plus Pro licenses for more critical machines. I've got 178 users on the program, and it pays for itself in frustration-relief a million times over. As a Central user, you can still deploy the free clients. Its an invaluable tool for me, and I can't imagine doing my job without it. That doesn't sound like the best way to increase market share.įor me, I've been a Central user for 3-4 years. Now that I'm using something else at home, I have something to compare at work when the subscription comes up for renewal. I started using it at home because I used it at work. I don't know what they'll consider too small to worry about pissing off. Maybe they stop caring about customers with two computers. Because prices doubling on year two is fun to explain to the folks in charge of the budget (No one cares about 50% off, they do care about the 100% increase). Which would be a good time to start looking for alternatives. Or maybe they give existing customers a discount for the first year with new prices. They've been increasing the price there too, and since free became $100 with seven days notice, it is no longer unprecedented that the paying customers might might see a jump in price with no notice (sure you might luck out and buy a year just before the price jump, but you may also have bad luck and your year runs out just before the jump). However, where I work is a paying customer (not a "customer" customer). I could care less that they eliminate their free product when alternative free programs exist. Entitled? No, I just moved on to another free program. Now to hope I don't have to repeat this next week. Can't verify how legit it is, but since most free programs post something similar about free forever (I know Facebook and Hotmail did), I wouldn't doubt it. I like that Teamviewer put up a 'how do I switch from LogMeIn Free to Teamviewer' FAQ: on their site which had about as much info on LogMeIn dropping their free service as LogMeIn's actual site did.Īlso found this pic: when trying to find some more information about this (since LogMeIn decided a handful of sentences was good enough). The 'thanks for using this program in a non-commercial environment' box that pops up on the remote computer after you're done seems a little silly, but isn't a deal breaker. But basic sign into the website, remote to PC, takeover screen, uninstall LogMeIn, and all free. Seems to work well enough, I probably need to play with some settings and figure some stuff out.
